Legal Street Drag Racing Hit Michigan

Mike Moran of Taylor, Mich., raced himself to victory and $10,000, when his 1969 Dodge Charger powered by a 5.6-liter twin turbo Gen 2 HEMI® V-8 claimed first prize in the Woodward Avenue Drag Racing Event.

Roadkill Nights powered by Dodge happened on August 19th. This was a historic event because street drag racing became legal for the day. Woodward Avenue in Pontiac, Michigan was closed between Rapid Street and South Boulevard. This 1/8 of a mile drag strip saw 350 street legal cars on August 19th. The total cash purse for the day was $19,000, and this event was attended by over 30,000 people.

In addition to the drag racing, there was a show 'n' shine event and thrill rides with professional drivers. Performance enthusiasts from all over the country attended this event.

"From a Dodge perspective, this was an absolutely epic event," said Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Car Brands - Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA - North America. "Performance is more than a set of numbers, it's an attitude. More than 30,000 performance enthusiasts, triple the number that attended of last year, showed up to be a part of this incredible event - the first-ever legal drag racing on Woodward. Roadkill Nights is a tremendous opportunity to connect with our fellow performance enthusiasts, embrace those who are already Dodge owners and give potential owners a chance to get a real feeling what Dodge is all about."

Don't worry if you missed the even this year, odds are it will be back, bigger and better next year!
